Academics call on EU to safeguard integrity of CSRD and CSDDD

A joint statement endorsed by 265 academics has urged EU policy makers to pursue simplifications to the CSRD and CSDDD “without compromising the integrity and ambition of these vital regulations”.

The statement argues that simplifications should be evidence-based, aligned with climate science, ensure regulatory consistency, balance costs and benefits, and safeguard risk-based corporate due diligence.

Various academic articles in support each of these five recommendations are cited in the statement.

The statement was co-authored by Andreas Rasche (Copenhagen Business School), Laura Marie Edinger-Schons (University of Hamburg), Judith Ströhle (University of St. Gallen), Ali Aslan Gümüsay (LMU Munich), Florian Berg (MIT), Florian Hoos (IMD Lausanne) and Gaia Melloni (University of Lausanne), and signed by a further 258 professors.

All signatories and co-authors have signed the statement in a personal capacity.
