The California Air Resources Board (CARB) has released a preliminary list of 3,137 companies which will be required to comply with the states’ climate-related disclosure requirements. (The list contains 4,170 names, but 1,033 are duplicates).
For each company on the list, CARB has specified whether they are only required to comply with the climate-risk disclosure law (SB 261) or required to comply with both SB 261 and the GHG emissions disclosure law (SB 253).
CARB compiled the list using the publicly available California Secretary of State data to determine entities doing business in California.
The dataset only includes active filings before Match 2022 and does not reflect the possible exemptions to the climate disclosure rules.
Of the companies included on the list, 1,185 (38%) are based in California.
