In 2025, a record 1,500 companies disclosed how they manage commodity-driven deforestation through the CDP questionnaire.
An analysis from CDP and the Accountability Framework initiative (AFi) found that 647 companies assessed and disclosed how much of the commodities they produce or source are deforestation-free and conversion-free, up from 445 companies in 2023.
In addition, 275 companies’ deforestation disclosures were deemed to be comprehensive and high-quality.
Tomasz Sawicki, CDP Head of Land, stated: “A handful of top-performing companies are already reporting that their businesses are free or almost free of deforestation or conversion. These disclosure leaders are taking decisive action by managing risks and protecting their supply chains.”
However, only 10% companies that derive revenues from deforestation-linked supply chains have set organisation-wide land sector emissions reduction targets, and only 38 organisations have submitted Forest, Land and Agriculture (FLAG) targets to the SBTi for validation.
AFi Lead Scientist Leah Samberg argued: “Setting a FLAG target through the SBTi is the clearest indication that a company intends to meaningfully reduce deforestation and conversion of other ecosystems as a central part of its climate goal.”
