David Cruickshank appointed ICAS president

28 April 2026

David Cruickshank has been appointed as the new president of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Scotland (ICAS), succeeding Karen Scholes in the role.

In addition, Jonny Jacobs was confirmed as deputy president, and Elizabeth Gammie was appointed as vice president at the ICAS general meeting last week.

Cruickshank has been an ICAS Council member, chaired the body’s Strategy Governance Group, and over the past two years served as both vice president and deputy president. Previously, he has held senior positions at Deloitte, including global chairman.

He said in a statement: “Improving social mobility in the accountancy profession is central to my agenda.”

“ICAS has a strong and influential voice, underpinned by huge amounts of research highly relevant to a business environment that is evolving faster than it has for decades,” Cruickshank continued.  “I want to promote this work on behalf of our members, using it to inform, and hopefully improve, outcomes on issues where ICAS has the authority to influence.”
