IFRS Foundation turns to central bankers for Trustees and IASB Chair roles

The IFRS Foundation has appointed Steven Maijoor as Chair of its Trustees, effective 1 January 2027, and Sam Woods as Chair of the International Accounting Standards Board (IASB), effective 1 October 2026.

Maijoor, currently a Trustee and chair of the Foundation's Due Process Oversight Committee, spent a decade as Chair of the European Securities and Markets Authority (ESMA) before joining the Executive Board of De Nederlandsche Bank, where he currently oversees supervision. He also currently serves as a member of the Supervisory Board of the European Central Bank.

Woods departs the Bank of England, where he has served as Deputy Governor for Prudential Regulation and CEO of the Prudential Regulation Authority since 2016. He takes over the IASB from Andreas Barckow, whose five-year term concluded in June, with Vice-Chair Linda Mezon-Hutter having served as Acting Chair during the transition.
