NGOs establish joint working group on nature transition plans

21 May 2026

A coalition of conservation and environment-focused organisations – led by CDP and WWF – have established a joint informal working group for developing a ‘Nature in Transition Planning Network’.

The network will support alignment and shared learning on how to integrate nature-related considerations into companies’ sustainability-related transition plans. Recommendations for establishing the network will be delivered ahead of the October COP 17 biodiversity conference in Yerevan.

CDP global director Thomas Maddox stated: '‘To accelerate implementation of global environmental goals, businesses now need clarity and support to expand the scope of those plans. This informal network will help chart that path, ensuring companies can integrate nature in a coherent, actionable way."

Other members of the working group include: the World Economic Forum; TNFD; Business for Nature; World Benchmarking Alliance; UNEP Finance Initiative; Rabobank; and representatives of the UK and Dutch governments.

Caroline van Leenders, of the Netherlands government’s Enterprise Agency, said: "As countries implement their National Biodiversity Strategies and Action Plans, it is essential that businesses and financial institutions understand how to mainstream nature in decision-making and align their strategies with these goals. This Informal Working Group is a timely step to strengthen that bridge and support credible transition planning.”
