Omnibus rapporteur faces complaint over potential conflict-of-interest

Ten civil society organisations - including Transparency International EU and Corporate Europe Observatory – have filed a formal complaint with the EU Parliament Advisory Committee on the Conduct of Members, raising “serious concerns regarding the outside interests of MEP Jörgen Warborn”.

Highlighting Warborn’s roles as lead rapporteur on the Omnibus Directive to simplify the CSRD and the CSDDD and president of registered lobby group SME Europe, they allege this “may constitute a possible conflict of interest” according to the Code of Conduct.

The complaint requests that the Committee investigate: the circumstances of Warborn’s role at SME Europe; how the group’s positions pertain to the Omnibus Directive; and the extent to which he has declared conflict-of-interest risks.

“Should you find that Mr Warborn is in breach of the Code of Conduct, we trust that you will immediately take all measures to rectify the situation and levy all appropriate sanctions,” the complaint reads.
