Seven in ten companies see value in sustainability reporting, PwC finds

Seven in ten companies that have disclosed in line with the ESRS or ISSB have obtained either significant value (28%) or moderate value (42%) from the data and insights collected for reporting, according to a survey by PwC.

The accounting firm surveyed 496 senior executives and professionals from companies that have or will be reporting under the international or EU standards.

Two thirds of respondents said senior leaders have devoted more time to sustainability reporting over the last year, while 65% said more resources have been allocated in that time.

While the vast majority (88%) of companies continue to use spreadsheets for reporting, significantly more have adopted carbon calculation tools, disclosure management tools, centralised sustainability data storage and AI compared with last year.

Most respondents also noted increased pressure from external and internal stakeholders to provide sustainability data.
