TNFD proposes invasive alien species metrics

The Taskforce on Nature-related Financial Disclosures (TNFD) has proposed new reporting metrics on invasive alien species (IAS).

Under the proposal, the TNFD framework would include metrics on:

• The proportion of activities with high IAS-related risk operated under appropriate measures to reduce the probability of introduction, establishment and spread of IAS
• Extent of established or newly introduced IAS in areas owned, operated, used or financed in priority areas (in km2)

These would replace the current ‘placeholder’ indicator which encourages companies to report on measures taken to prevent the introduction of IAS.

A discussion paper setting out the proposed new metrics is open for consultation until 5 August. The TNFD will finalise the IAS disclosure metrics and accompanying guidance in October.
