IndustriALL, UNI Global Union and the German Trade Union Confederation (DGB) launched the 'Competence Centre for Human Rights Due Diligence' (HRDD) at an event in Berlin last week (26 March).
The centre will help trade unions identify which HRDD laws apply and how they can access enforcement mechanisms and pathways.
A steering committee – comprised of IndustriALL, UNI and DGB representatives – will focus on capacity building, supporting strategic interventions and advocating for effective legislation.
Atle Høie, IndustriALL general secretary, stated: “Workers in global supply chains need more than laws on paper – they need the tools and support to make those laws work for them. The Competence Centre gives unions the leverage to do exactly that: to move from compliance rituals to real accountability, and to ensure that workers are at the heart of the process, not an afterthought.”
